Hey, anyways, you know, I've notice that I've noticed something important is missing: artists' comments. Maybe I'm blind or n00by?
Point me out in the right direction please.
BTW, my god, this is SWEET. And fun, yeah. Maybe it's cuz I'm lacking real summer fun...

Wow, a couple comments have made my day!
Escape Route was definately my pride-and-joy, and I will be submitting it to OCR soon. I'm glad to see it hit it's mark for the most part! (I also really enjoyed "slapping my musical dick against my flute" in the end there...haha)
As for Scrap Metal, it's a piece that I randomly came up with 2 days before it was due, so in that respect, I think I did a good job (especially dince I also worked 10 hours on all three of those days ). However, it is probably one of the prime suspects in the "generic techno" genre to those idiot 4-channers. (Though for clarification, it's actually a blend of Breaks and fast House, according to a friend).
Anyway, I'm happy with the project and that's the important part to me. I'll be doing an extensive write-up tonight after work, so come by to see a review of your guys' work sometime late... _________________ My arrangements, original compositions, and recital recordings:

| Why would anyone say the art sucks? I thought they were like, derived from some official pictures or something, since they seemed to match perfectly with the game. The back of CD 1 is genius. Anyway, check out my long-ass post on the OCR thread. See if you can spot the place where I didn't finish my thought and don't care at all enough to go back and edit it! |

Yay! Feedback:

basically, the song was resequenced from the ground up as NES chip-tune. It was actually supposed to be the same on purpose, it has nothing to do with orgmaker at all really. But.. the similarity is obvious - and people who don't know better are going to presume that. |
Well. I can't say I knew exactly how it was made, but I don't recall stating it was made in ORGmaker either. But true, true, I did not know better.
| ikki5 wrote: | | I really like this music, good job guys but I think the the song " Cave Story" could have been done a bit better. It just does not seem like much was done to it compared to the game. |
Whoo! Someone that agrees with me! Also, to clear things up, I did not say it sucked. I said it was below expectations, or, more simply, as the guy above stated, "Could have been done a bit better".

Alright. Clearly this guy is a lot more...professional in this area, and has stated out many points why this song is not bad at all. I respect his opinion, I respect the fact that he shared them, but I don't really like the last part of it. I don't remember ever saying anything like that! And I surely don't remember calling names. It's called constructive criticism, sir. Sure, you may best me in the music, but your EQ? It needs work.

@tumult: same goes for the cave story theme as a chiptune - I like it, just not in this context.
Modulation seems to be like cut into two different tracks, a long drawn out 1 minute intro, and then
another minute of the same thing agai nwith a drumbeat and less ambience, so much more could have been done with this track but again it seems people were afraid to elaborate on the originals all that much. It's a decent track but nothing spectacular in my mind.
|
Alright. I think this guy fits my opinion the best. Except I have to add one more thing, I think the rest of the soundtrack IS spectacular. Well, minus a few others or two. It's just that, a song like this, you would have expected something...else, ya know?

Man. I think the comment speaks for itself.
a. @#%#@!%%$@# %$#@^&%#$#@ @#$%# I don't recall that ever being in a dictionary. Please use words normal people can understand.
b. IN NO WAY did I even try to sound professional, I spoke only of the feel of the song. Music conniseur? Far from it.
c. thibking? what ever? I've notice that I've noticed? Sir, words and sentences have a right to be spelled correctly and with proper grammar. Nobody likes reading something like that.
Whew. What a workout. I just realized everything I quoted might not exactly be centered on me, but just in case. IF ANYONE TAKES OFFENSE to ANY of this, it was not intended. I came to voice, not to war. Oh, by the way, awesome soundtrack (again, minus a couple of songs.) |

Well I got little disappointed, because the teaser
sounded great and i hoped that the songs will sound
completely like the teaser. Unfortunately the teaser contained only the best parts from the songs.
It doesn't mean I don't like it.
The whole soundtrack is so cool
(especially "Escape Route")
Grate job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I even got inspired by the music and
drew this :

I hope you like my image
Oh, and sorry for my bad english. |

EQ? equalizer? huh?
anyway, i was talking about people in general, not specifically you (mainly people at livejournal/4chan who were like "OMG 'cave story' sucks since it is exactly the same with different instruments" and then they turn around one sentence later and go "i think this next song was changed too much, why didn't they redo the original sound track with differnet instruments!?")
also since you don't remember saying anything like that, it shouldn't apply to you, right? |

EQ, emotional quotient, it's like IQ but for your personality. Anyways, yeah, I kind realized that it probably wasn't about me, but I decided to post it anyways, uhhh...just in case (You can never be too sure, lotsa kooks on the internet nowadays). Hahahah, I just don't reccomend the insults, that's how wars are started, ya know? Well. Bye? Hahahah. Oh, and perhaps the second to last sentence in my previous post was a bit mocking, so..don't mind it much. And I'm off! |

Generally, when talking about music, EQ means equalizer, as in active tone control. A device/plugin to boost/cut certain frequencies.
You're welcome |

Hello I'm new on the forum. Congratulation for the wonderful Cave Story soundtrack remixes!
I'd like to post my favourites (I dare do comments):
01 DJ Dain- Never Die: damn this rocks! Perfect multi-style mix
02 Corran- Scrap Metal, Escape Route: fresh sound and great rhythms for both tracks without losing the original song feeling. Great job!
03 Kwix- Mimiga Vibe: usually in remixes I don't like too much changes from the original main melody, but anyway this result is wonderful
04 Rexy- Smoothie Brace: very nice song! I have only one thing to say about the final annoying high pitch note
05 Quinn Fox- Taking Advantage: some tunes are missing in the remix. Good song but it loses strenght sometimes
06 Kris Davis- Island of Eden: Great multi-track guitar mix
07 Tackle- Ball of Ballos: Metal style is very good, but the remix separates too much from original near the end.
08 Tumult- Modulation: nice and calm
09 Tackle- Grass Stains: I didn't like the decision to maintain some original simple tunes but guitar parts are well done
10 Prophecy- Shoddy Loch: prevously I forgot to mention this well done remix
11 OverCoat- H2O: good, but I couldn't identify the original song..
12 Quinn Fox- Tetrahedron: nice, but as I said before I don't like main melody changes (also of few notes)
Forgive me for the ranking and comments, but I couldn't resist
Thank you for the fine music ^_^

Oh by the way Overcoat, did you perhaps save those 4chan discussions? I didn't get to see them. Probably would have been good for a laugh or two. _________________ My arrangements, original compositions, and recital recordings:

Some people do..
But Corran they were really stupid. I even went there and threw in some stupidity. I do remember at least one 4channer said Escape Route was awesome though.
But here's the summary of the 4chan threads
"Lol this projetc sux"
"yeah art blows too"
"art was okay"
"art was worse than the music"
"noobs from ocremix lol"
'noobs from vgmix'
fixed
"ocremix has quality control, vgmix accepts all crap"
"lol they got dj in their name"
*pictures of samurai pizza cats*
And it just goes downhill from there. |

Hey guys, just want to thank you all for making this. I'm only slightly exaggerating when I say you made my summer. These tracks are awesome, and have totally rekindled my love for Cave Story. I clearly have some favorites, mostly due to the fact that some of the originals are better than others, but in terms of quality of mixing, all of you did a fantastic job. I'm really really impressed.
The first time I listened to it there were some slight deviations from the original tracks that kind of irked me. I'd want to hear the original track so badly, it was like an itch that was just barely missed being scratched. Like the part in Island of Eden when it starts to build toward the Final Battle music, but doesn't quite reach it, or minor changes in 1:40-2:24 in Never Die. Since then, though, the changes have grown on me. Seriously, the only thing I honestly would change is the pronunciation of "Huzzah" in Ballrawg. By which I mean to say the project's essentially flawless. Way to go, guys. You're awesome. Pan pipes are my favorite instrument ever, Escape Route FTW.
By the way, what's the deal with Cave Story and Almost There? I don't have the original soundtrack, so I can't tell for sure, but they don't seem like they were changed that much. Was this intentional?

Oh my gosh.. Hahahah
4chan started yet another thread about the project. Though it seems to have died right afterwards.
Of course the person who started this one didn't do so in mean spirit.
