VSYNC

Does anybody know of a way to prevent the screen tearing in this game?

I braved it for my first game, but now I'm wanting to replay it to re-learn about the characters, and it is very distracting to me!
corran

What is "screen tearing?"

I had a lot of problems myself with the game lagging and freezing a lot (and taking down the whole computer with it). I just beat it last night and would like to play again (didn't save the girl this time) but I don't know if I want to reboot my computer 10 times a day again!

Thats very strange as i didn't have any problems playing the game? .. ran smooth as silk.

and i must repeat corran, what exactly is the problem gwilym?

Oh - if your not running it in a window, i'd do that.
KM

What's the refresh rate on your monitor set at? Another thiung you can try is setting the priority higher, it sits at normal usually but if you have WinXP you could set it to above normal or high priority, you know how to do that right? If not just ask.
Gwilym

I'll try this windowed mode, and see what happens.

Basically, I just get the classic VSYNC-OFF look. It runs smoothly, but the top and bottom of the screen don't update at the exact same time.

My stuff didn't work? T_T
Gwilym

Well, the other stuff definitely doesn't work, but I just realised I hadn't tried the priority thing. I really don't think that is the issue, though.
KM

Well the tearing is because the screen doesn't refresh as fast as the action is going or on time with the game, you are running something better than an 8mb ATI right? if it's running slow a priority fix would cure it, like my vids.music, it'd like skip all the time and jitter but when I set the priority high it stops, just a suggestion.
Gwilym

I have a GeForce 6600GT; it runs stuff like Half-Life 2 and Far Cry awesomely, so that's not the problem.

Well, actually, it COULD be the problem. It generates frames faster than my monitor can handle them, even at maximum refresh rate. Of course, my maximum refresh rate at my regular resolution is quite low. Let's see what happens if I set my desktop to a lower resolution.

NOPE!

Hmmmmm. It's really not that bad, but like... the graphics are so nice and clean otherwise, so it nags at me. HORJ

I think you can reduce the rate at which the GeForce is refreshing what it sends, too? Not sure, but I think that's somewhere in the card's settings panel (like, the system-tray-esque one).

though that may not even help. I assume you have up-to-date drivers and directx and stuff?
Gwilym

Yes, of course, though I've never heard of this GeForce limiting what

I shall investigax
corran

I will try some of this stuff and see if it fixes it.

I, however, do have the cheapest video card ever. I don't play games on my computer except for emulators occasionally. Besides, I spent all my money on soundcard/interface Very Happy.
tumult

why, it's quite easy! first you simply open the preferences from the in-game menu:

and then you check the.. oh

haha you're stuck with a pc

What a load of old horse Sad

Heres a few things that could work

1.) Try adjusting your refresh rate, i have mine set to 75 Hertz. try that. 60 is the most common.

2.) Make sure your color quality is set to 'Highest' via your Video card options. (Highest is 32 bit)

3.) In DouConfig, try changing from 32 to bit to 24 bit.

4.) In your Nvidia options menu (taskbar) try changing your Image Settings to 'High Performance'

5.) Right click desktop -> Screen config -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot -> Slide your Hardware Acceleration bar to None then play.
KM

60? uggg, nothing less than 85 for me. Surprised Some have a 120 function but I've never seen a monitor that can go that high.
RushJet1

i run my monitor at 60hz i think. my old monitor would bother me a lot if i set it to 60, but this one's fine.

you've probably already done this, but try checking your drivers, gwilym. force vsync in all apps if you can... i have an ati card, so i don't really have much experience with the nvidia drivers as of late.
