Uh, this is kinda n00bish. Anyway. How exactly do i get the instruments? Do I play the instrument and record it, or do i do it digitally? Or, do i rip from another song and edit it to play the right notes and stuff?
Right now all I've managed to do is use a digital tone to get the basic tune and edited it to sound cool. That all went fine, but now i want to use drums. I don't have drums, or any good way of recording them. Can someone give me some small sound files with a bass drum, snare, high-hat, (etc.) playing all at separate times. I'd like to create a beat for my song.
And if you're wondering, the song I'm making is a techno-ish (i think) remix of the Super Mario Bros Star theme.
(Btw, i'd like to remix a DM/CS song, but I'm probably not gonna be good at it. But if i come up with a good WIP I'll send it to whoever.)

This is a Cave Story Remix Project, you prolly don't want to post that Mario remix here. _________________ -=sB=-

DM/CS = Doukutsu Monogatari/Cave Story
I'd like to do a song (probably Eyes of Flames, since I've started it already.) but its probably not gonna be that good. If it is, though, I'd like to add it to this project. |

Send k-wix a wip, and let that judge your skill. _________________ -=sB=-

Well, after reading around, i realised how little i knew about remixing.
So...
Soundfonts are instrument sounds that you can edit to add to a song, right?
And where can i find a good remixing program? |

This is seriously like - the worst possible place to ask for 'getting started' remixing tips. I understand you want to contribute, but this just isn't the place to get started. go check out the OCR help boards at http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=7 or even the vgmix forums - there are plenty of helpful people around. _________________ <3

I guess, but i think i've changed my mind about using artificial sounds.
Right now I'm considering doing Zombie using my keyboard. Its a little fuzzy from my lousy microphone (i don't have any way to hook it up to the PC, so im putting a mic up to the speaker.)
If this song doesn't come out good, I just won't do this project.
I feel like such a n00b though.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and if i do come up with something good, i have a question. In the one sticky topic, it says that the first due date is April 1st, right? What exactly are you looking for on that date? A finished product, or a WIP? If its just a WIP, how much of it do you want done by then? _________________ I'm such a noob... |

Just a work in progress. It doesn't matter how much progress you have on it, it just needs to be stated that you HAVE your idea and material ready to hit the ground running in this project. I'm not sure, but in some projects, further WIP due dates are posted afterwards, to make sure you either have ONE of your chosen songs done, or the one your working on, pretty close to done. Most just post one WIP deadline, and then a project ending deadline. I need to get to work on my part of this project, though!
